HTML Compressor strips the whitespace, indentation, and comments out of readable HTML, producing the same markup a browser would render but with every non-essential byte removed. It is the direct inverse of the HTML Beautifier — one tool exists to make markup readable for development, this one exists to make it small for production.
The motivation is almost entirely about the network, not disk space. HTML is typically the first byte-for-byte resource a browser downloads for any page load, and it blocks everything else — the browser cannot start building the DOM, discovering linked CSS and JS, or painting anything until enough of the HTML document has arrived. Every byte of indentation whitespace and every developer comment sitting in that critical response adds to Time to First Byte and First Contentful Paint, which is exactly what Core Web Vitals measures and what Google's page experience signals weigh in search ranking. On a well-optimized site the savings from HTML minification alone are modest compared to image or JS optimization, but it is essentially free to apply and there is no reason to skip it in a production build.
A common question is whether minification still matters once gzip or Brotli compression is already enabled at the server or CDN level — and the honest answer is that it matters less, but not zero. Compression algorithms are extremely good at eliminating repeated patterns like runs of spaces and repeated indentation, so a gzip-compressed beautified HTML file and a gzip-compressed minified HTML file end up much closer in size than the uncompressed versions suggest. Where minification still earns its keep even under compression: HTML comments containing developer notes, TODOs, or debug markup provide zero compression benefit to remove pre-compression versus post, but removing them before compression means the compression step itself has less total work to do, and it means nothing about your internal implementation notes ships to every visitor's browser in the page source.
Minification should be a build-time step, not something you hand-maintain. Keep your actual source HTML fully indented and commented for your own sanity and for git history, and run compression as the very last step before deployment — exactly what this tool demonstrates and what bundlers like Vite, webpack's html-webpack-plugin, and static site generators do automatically as part of their production build.
The compressor runs a sequence of pattern-based passes over the input: it strips every HTML comment (<!-- ... -->), collapses runs of consecutive whitespace characters (spaces, tabs, newlines) down to a single space, removes whitespace sitting directly between two tags where it serves no visual purpose, and trims stray spaces immediately inside angle brackets. The result is functionally identical markup — same tags, same attributes, same text content — with every byte of formatting whitespace and comment text removed. The before/after character counts are compared to show you the percentage reduction. Everything runs synchronously in your browser tab with no upload involved.
Paste your HTML
Paste your formatted, readable HTML source into the input editor — the character count updates live so you can see the starting size.
Click Compress HTML
The compressor strips comments and collapses all non-essential whitespace between and inside tags in a single pass.
Check the size reduction
The output panel shows the compressed markup alongside the exact percentage smaller it is than your original — useful for deciding whether minification is worth the readability tradeoff for a given file.
Copy the minified output
Click Copy to grab the compressed HTML and drop it into your production build, deployment pipeline, or anywhere you need the smallest possible payload.
Page Speed Optimization
Reduce raw HTML transfer size to improve server response time and Google Core Web Vitals scores.
HTML Email Templates
Minify email HTML to reduce message size and improve delivery rates with email providers.
Static Site Deployment
Compress HTML files before uploading to a CDN or static host to lower bandwidth costs.
Comment Removal
Strip developer comments from production HTML to avoid exposing implementation notes to end users.
CMS Template Export
Minify exported HTML templates from CMS platforms before integrating them into lightweight projects.
Build Pipeline Testing
Quickly test how much a page can be compressed before configuring automated minification in a build tool.
Comment Removal
Automatically strips all HTML comments from output so developer notes never reach production users.
Tag Whitespace Collapse
Removes whitespace between tags to produce cleaner output without risking text-node spacing issues.
Reduction Percentage
Displays the exact percentage decrease in file size so you can immediately evaluate the compression gain.
Instant Processing
Runs entirely in your browser so even large HTML files are compressed without any waiting or uploads.
Safe for Production
The compressor only removes characters that browsers ignore, leaving all actual content and tag structure intact.
Download Ready Output
Download the compressed result directly as an HTML file for immediate use in your deployment workflow.
