Extract Pages solves a specific, common problem: you have one long PDF, but you only need to send someone a handful of pages from it — not the whole thing, and not as a separate tool for cutting a document into many pieces (that's what a splitter does). This tool works the other direction from splitting: you visually pick the exact pages you want, in any combination, and get back one clean new PDF containing only those pages, in their original order and at full original quality.
The distinction from a generic "split PDF" tool matters. Splitting implies dividing a document into several output files, often at regular intervals (every 5 pages, or at each chapter break). Extraction is selective — you're not slicing the document into pieces, you're cherry-picking specific pages by clicking on visual thumbnails or typing a page range, and everything not selected is simply left out of the result. A 40-page contract where you only need pages 3, 3, and 12 through 15 for a specific clause review is a five-minute extraction job, not a splitting job.
Because the thumbnails render every page before you commit to anything, there's no guesswork about what page number corresponds to what content — you see the actual page, click it, and it's added to your selection. The source file is read-only throughout the process; nothing about the original PDF is modified, and the new file is assembled fresh from the pages you chose.
Upload your PDF and PDF.js renders a thumbnail preview of every single page directly in your browser — no waiting on a server to process anything. Click any thumbnail to toggle it into your selection (it highlights in cyan), or type a page range like "1,3,5-8" if you already know the exact numbers you need. Use "Select All" or "Select None" for bulk changes to a long document. Once your selection looks right, clicking "Extract Pages" hands the page numbers to pdf-lib, which copies just those pages — at the binary level, with no re-encoding — into a brand-new PDF that downloads immediately.
