PowerPoint to PDF converts a .pptx presentation into a single, fixed PDF document — one page per slide, at the same aspect ratio as the original deck — so it can be shared, printed, or archived in a format that looks identical no matter who opens it or what software they have.
The core problem this solves is that a .pptx file is not actually a finished document; it's an editable project file that depends on the viewer's own PowerPoint (or Google Slides, or LibreOffice Impress) installation to render correctly. Fonts not installed on the recipient's machine get silently substituted, slide masters and themes can render slightly differently across app versions, and anyone with edit access can — intentionally or accidentally — change the content before passing it along. A PDF freezes all of that: text, layout, and images are baked into a page exactly as they appeared at export time, and nothing about that page changes based on who opens it or what device they're using.
That fixed-page nature is precisely why PDF has become the default format for distributing a "finished" version of a deck. A pitch sent to a client, a set of slides submitted for a grant or academic review, a board deck attached to an email, or a printed handout at a conference — in every one of these cases, you want the recipient to see exactly what you designed, not a re-rendered approximation shaped by whatever fonts happen to be installed on their laptop. Converting to PDF also strips away the ability to casually edit the content, which is often a feature rather than a limitation when a deck is meant to be final.
Each slide is placed on its own PDF page sized to match the slide's aspect ratio — standard 4:3 or widescreen 16:9 — so pages don't appear stretched, cropped, or letterboxed with white space. The output opens in any PDF viewer, prints reliably from any operating system, and can be attached to an email or uploaded to a portal without anyone needing PowerPoint at all.
Your .pptx file is opened directly in the browser using JSZip, since a .pptx is really just a ZIP archive of per-slide XML documents. Each slide's XML is parsed to extract its text runs, embedded images, shape fills, and layout positions, which are then painted onto an HTML canvas sized to match that slide's aspect ratio. Once every slide has been rendered to its own canvas, pdf-lib assembles them in order into a single PDF file, one page per slide, at the correct dimensions throughout. The entire pipeline — unzipping, parsing, rendering, and PDF assembly — runs locally in your browser, so the presentation itself is never transmitted anywhere as part of generating the output.
