LibreOffice Calc / OpenDocument Spreadsheet
ODS is the OpenDocument Spreadsheet format — an open, ISO/IEC 26300-standardized XML schema that LibreOffice Calc and Apache OpenOffice save to by default. XLSX is Microsoft's Office Open XML equivalent used by Excel. Both formats are, structurally, a ZIP archive of XML files describing sheets, cells, styles, and formulas — but the two schemas encode formulas, cell styles, and workbook structure differently enough that a raw .ods file won't open natively in Excel without a translation step in between, and vice versa.
This conversion reads your ODS file using SheetJS, a library built specifically to understand the OpenDocument Spreadsheet schema alongside dozens of other spreadsheet formats, and extracts every worksheet along with each cell's actual value, data type, and formula. Formulas written using standard functions — SUM, AVERAGE, IF, VLOOKUP, COUNTIF and the rest of the common function library — use largely the same syntax across both ODF and OOXML, so they translate over as working, live formulas rather than being flattened into static values. The result is written out as a genuine .xlsx workbook, not a renamed or repackaged ODS file, so Excel opens it exactly the way it opens any other native workbook.
What doesn't reliably survive the jump is anything tied to the file format's own internals rather than the spreadsheet's data: Basic macros (LibreOffice's scripting language) have no equivalent in Excel's VBA and are not converted, and some ODS-specific formatting — particular border styles, certain conditional formatting rules, or chart objects built with Calc's drawing tools — may render slightly differently once opened in Excel's own style engine. For everyday spreadsheets — budgets, data exports, formula-driven reports, and simple formatted tables — the underlying data and formulas make the conversion cleanly and remain fully functional.
Drop your .ods file. SheetJS parses the OpenDocument Spreadsheet XML directly, reading every worksheet, cell value, data type, and formula exactly as LibreOffice Calc or OpenOffice wrote them. Formulas using standard functions are preserved as live formulas rather than flattened to static numbers. The parsed workbook is then re-serialized as a modern .xlsx file using the Office Open XML format, and the whole read-and-rewrite process happens entirely inside your browser tab — nothing is uploaded to a server at any point.
Upload your ODS file
Drop an OpenDocument Spreadsheet (.ods) file from LibreOffice Calc, OpenOffice, or a Google Sheets export onto the upload zone.
Convert
Click "Convert to Excel". Every sheet, along with cell values, data types, and standard formulas, is mapped to the XLSX format.
Download the XLSX
Save the .xlsx file and open it in Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets, or any Excel-compatible spreadsheet app.
Check formulas and formatting
Review formulas that use LibreOffice-specific functions and any conditional formatting or chart objects, since these are the parts most likely to need a manual touch-up.
Continue your workflow in Excel
Once verified, use PivotTables, additional formulas, or the Excel to PDF tool to take the spreadsheet further.
Cross-App Sharing
Convert LibreOffice Calc spreadsheets to XLSX before sharing with colleagues or clients who use Microsoft Excel.
Business Reports
Convert ODS financial reports to Excel format for compatibility with corporate dashboards and reporting tools.
Data Analysis
Open ODS exports from accounting or ERP software in Excel for further analysis using PivotTables and charts.
Mixed-OS Teams
Teams working across Linux (LibreOffice) and Windows (Excel) can share spreadsheets seamlessly after ODS to XLSX conversion.
Cloud Uploads
Upload spreadsheets to Google Sheets, OneDrive, or SharePoint, which work best with XLSX rather than ODS.
Legacy System Exports
Many government and open-source platforms export data as ODS — convert to XLSX for use in standard Excel workflows.
Browser-Only Processing
SheetJS reads your ODS file entirely in the browser using WebAssembly — no server, no upload, complete privacy.
All Sheets Preserved
Every worksheet in the ODS workbook is transferred to the output XLSX with its name and structure intact.
Formula Compatibility
Standard spreadsheet formulas are converted and remain functional in Excel after the conversion.
XLSX Compatibility
The output is a standard .xlsx file that opens correctly in Excel 2007 and later, Google Sheets, and LibreOffice Calc.
No File Size Limit
There is no hard file size restriction, so large ODS spreadsheets with many rows can be converted without issue.
Free to Start — Sign Up for More
Use free with no account for files up to 40 MB. Sign up free to raise your limit to 80 MB, or upgrade to Pro for 250 MB per file.
